I'm running 1/4 mile in the mid 12's --Anything under 13.49 you have to have a roll bar (nhra) hand book for Convertibles
I'm sure some serious drag racers will chime in but my experience is the IHRA tracks will only let verts run to 13.499 without a roll bar. I got booted last Friday at IHRA sponsored Tulsa Raceway Park last Friday for the second year in a row. Ran mid 12's. However, the NHRA track in OKC will let Verts run to 11.5 sec without a roll bar - 'Pure Stock Class' - even if your not stock.
Sure wish the IHRA rule makers would get with the times. A stock C5 vert will run better than 13.5 in decent air!
When I bracket raced my '91 roadster I was able to put a hardtop on it reclassifing it as a coupe thus lowering the ET cutoff point requiring a cage.
Seriously?? Don't tell me it was one of those nice looking - but no protection - fiberglass aftermarket tops! How much sense does that make? Oh, we're talking rules books, not making sense aren't we.

When we first went to Road Atlanta I asked a couple of the Panoz guys about verts needing roll bars. Their comment was that the rules are 'ALL convertibles require roll bars', however, they also said that they had never seen a Corvette rollover at RA, but they couldn't have different rules for specific 'lower risk' makes of cars.
Admittedly I do not drag race nor have any interest in it, but how many C5's have rolled over on the strip? Is it a REAL safety risk?
