Hi folks,
Well, I'm on yet another "world wind" tour of the Army fighting the War on Terror. I'm in Fairbanks, Alaska and I really miss driving my Vette. This is one of those occasions where I can not honestly say, "Boy I wish I had driven the Vette". . It's funny, everytime I go on travel my co-workers always ask me, "Hey Mark, you need someone to watch that Vette for you"? They never ask about my truck. Well, I'll be going to NY and then to Germany next. So, I guess I'll be going through "Vette withdraws" for the next few weeks. . Have fun and enjoy life Folks!!!
Mark
BTW, been here 2 days and I already spotted a very nice AE vert and a decent looking C3.

Mark, I know the feeling... I'm in Cali without Red Racer and man that rental car is slow! Well, at least we have something to really look forward to getting back home...

I spent 1997 through 2000 at Eielson AFB up there. I went through Vette withdrawal until I went back to AZ and brought my 89 vert up there. The Vette driving season is short. You're there at the best time of year though, 24 hours of daylight. Are you at Ft. Wainwright?

Yup, I'm at Ft. Wainwright!! The 24hr daylight gets a little hard to follow. The weather is great and the area has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. 80 degrees, cool breeze and no rain during the day!! How did I get so lucky?? I just need my Vette.

How ironic. We're both away from home without our TR coupes . It just doesn't feel right without my car. I know what you mean about the rentals. I'm on TDY about 2-4 weeks out of every month and I've driven almost every kind of car there is. I'm in a Toyota "something" right now and even though I'm grateful I have a vehicle, it's just not a C5.

Enjoy the weather and scenery and be glad you're not there in January. Temps of -50 ambient are not uncommon. Sunrise is around 1000 and sunset at 1500 and the sun never comes above the horizon. If I ever go back you can bet it will be July or August. Enjoy your stay.
BTW - I think there are over 50 Vettes registered in Fairbanks and surrounding area. There is a Vette club in Fairbanks as well and at least one forum member in the area.
P.S. - All of the rain falls in North Pole for some reason.
Oh man, I feel for ya! In a few weeks, I'll be going back to my ship, "merchant". Hate to leave the Vette! (and the wife, of course). I'm not doing anything nearly as courageous as you, but, I still know how you feel!

I was in Fairbanks on May then spend two weesk right outside of TOK. Great weather when I was there and I left right when thje bugs started to hatch!...Just in time!
I feel your pain. I've been in Colombia, South America for the past few months. I miss my rocket quite fierce. You begin to appreciate good road maintenance while you're down here. I would never even entertain the idea of driving a Vette down here. Fortunately, a good friend of mine is caring for my Pewter rocket until I return. I'm not too worried about him having it. He and his wife are kinda intimidated by the car.
At least I can look at the beautiful women here...gotta love that. So much so I'm bringing one back with me!
GWOT...takes to places away from the things we love...makes you appreciate them more when you return.

River is too muddy. Salcha River has kings and it is clear. Good fishing there. Down by Eielson. Army if you call and I am not home leave me a message. I have to drive Mrs. Torch around in her Town Car to do some grocery shopping. BRB in about 2 hours.
