I've had two different cars dyno tuned, both of them in near stock condition, and both times I picked up 10-11rwhp. In both cases we pinpointed minor problems which accounted for the big improvement, but the main thing is I would not have picked up that power if it weren't for the dyno tuning sessions.
With an automatic you can get a lot of benefit out of it, since the stock shift points are way too low on these cars. Raising them up will give you at least a two tenths improvement at the dragstrip. That alone is worth it! Plus a good dyno tune will give you much better overall part throttle response, so it's something you can benefit from even if you don't drive fast all the time.

, been there, done that!
Now some folks say the cost/benefit ratio is not worth it, that too depends. If you can find a tuner like 21st Cent MC near by, you're very fortunate. Their deal is, you buy the tune/LS1 Edit and, every time you get a mod there is no added charge for another tune. I've got about 7 print out of progressive dyo pulls, helps fill out the record book nicley.
yes a dyno tune will help. The vast majority of tghese cars are set to run pig rich from the factory. Every time the car detonates , when the HP builds back up, it will be 3-4 HP less then prior to the detonation.
I picked up an honest 17 rwhp after my dyno tune, the tuner also re-set the shift points (I have an a4), this made the shifts MUCH more firm and crisp.
IMO a dyno tune is a must for anyone who wants their car to perfom to the best of it's ability.

DTE in Fort Wayne. Seeing where you live, I would suggest you give Mallet a call. I have never been there, but have always heard GREAT things about their work.

I'm gonna have to go with 3boat on this.
I just had mine (A4 also) have a diag. run on it. Found out my car is dumping fuel like crazy. I have a BW and Corsa exhaust.
Only suggestion I would add might be for you to look into a "off dyno" tune. I'm getting one done on Tues. and it's only around 250.00 vs. 850.00 for a dyno tune.
I know that as I have had them do additional work to my car, they always re-tune the car for the new mods, and do not charge me for this new tuning. So for me atleast the $ spent for the dyno tune wasn't wasted cash, because obvioulsy as I did bigger mods such as Cams and stuff (getting an ls2 put in at the moment), they don't charge to re-tune.
I would imagine if you built a relationship with a shop, such as DTE or LPE or Mallet, that once you paid them to tune your car, they would update the tune if you did MORE modding, via their shop.
So IMO the $ spent on a tune for a STOCK car is not wasted, if you want your car to perform at 100%.
