It worked great – no more pinging, better gas mileage (just finished a 2500 mile trip, got 28 mpg averaging 80+ mph with A/C on continuously), and engine definitely runs smoother.
I am not mechanically inclined, but found the procedure quite simple and total cost was $13 for 2 cans of GM top engine cleaner.
For those of you on the fence about doing it, just thought I’d let you know that it works!
Is GM cleaner only at stealerships, or can you get it online?
If you don't have pinging, is this a good preventative procedure? I have about 40k now. TIA!
Did not try to buy it on-line (was in a hurry to do it before trip), so went to the stealership. But for $13, think it would be hard to beat on-line since you would have to pay for shipping.
Other types of cleaner? I have no idea.
I plan on doing it every few oil changes as preventative maintenance, but will do so based on gut feel, not any specific knowledge. Maybe one of our resident mechanics could comment on this.
