Default How do I Clean the HUD

I have noticed a lot of dust/dirt on the reflective mirror down in the dash but it is hard to get to with the windshield in the way. I am also concerned about damaging the mirror since I don't know what it is made of. Is it glass or plastic?

A piece of cloth and some household glass cleaner, and go ahead and wipe the lens. Be very careful not to press too hard.

This is verbatim from the video that came with my 2000 Vette.

That's how I clean mine. I use Stoner's Invisible Glass on it.

The lens that you are seeing the dust on may just be the "upper" lens and is plastic. Just to be on the safe side, I would recommend any cleaner you use not contain ammonia. If it is safe for tinted windows, it will be safe for the plastic lens. Most auto parts stores carry window cleaner these days that is safe for tinted windows.
BTW, the mirror itself is down inside and is only accessible by removal of the HUD projector assembly. HTH

What do you use to get a towel down there?

I just use my fingers/hand. Afterwards, I usually have to wipe the windshield clean of my "knuckle prints". Just be very gentle with your cleaning and don't mash too hard on the lens. HTH

Oh yeah, just spray the cleaner on the cloth first, then wipe. I wouldn't spray any liquid down into the opening itself.

the owner's manual is pretty clear that one should NOT shoot any cleaner onto the hud; spray the cloth THEN do your cleaning. bub

Same for the Lexan top and gage cluster cover. The best stuff for plastic I have used so far is Plexus.

I like water and a microfiber towel and another to dry with. My experience with any solvent/cleaner is that it cobwebs the plastic more.

I use my damp chamois to wipe down the dash after wiping down the car . I also use it on the inside windows and hud display with great results. Been doing this on all the Vettes I've owned and have had great results.

Definitely the least abrasive way to clean things. I do my interior glass the same way.
