So I'm downsizing from a house with a garage to an apartment with no garage, so I'm looking for a opinions from those of you who have car covers. I live in austin so don't have to worry about snow, but it gets pretty hot and sticky here. and if anyone has a good car cover they want to get rid of, shoot me a pm.
Well being that you're downsizing, I've got a GREAT deal on a compact car cover for you. You can't find these babies just anywhere either! You seem like a good guy, so I'll let you have this gem of a cover for ONLY $149.99
I had a Wolf with my 92 and I was real happy with it. Don't go cheap on a cover especially if you are going to be using it regularly. I bought the Wall for my C-5 and it has a plastic feel to it.
Three or four companies manufacture the majority of the cover fabrics used in today's car covers - Kimberly-Clark, Nextec, Glen Raven Mills, etc. The handful or so of companies that manufacture (sew) car covers all get their fabrics from one or more of these sources. Here are a few web sites that may help you in choosing a cover fabric that is right for your use:
CoverCraft located in Pauls Valley, OK is the World's largest manufacturer of custom car covers and IMO, makes excellent quality covers. In addition to the CoverCraft brand, they also make covers for several other companies who in turn have their brand label put on these covers. In some cases, the same cover with another company's brand label will sell for a premium price only because of the brand name. So, shop around and you may well save yourself some money on a high quality cover. A number of the Forum supporting vendors here sell the CoverCraft brand or covers made by CoverCraft. The following link contains a list of companies that sell the CoverCraft brand or covers made by CoverCraft:
Gray thanks for all the great info. Do I need to worry about what kind of liner these covers have? I already have a few hairline scratches in the paint and they annoy me to no end, so I want to make sure whatever cover I use doesn't give me any more. Or are all the covercraft covers "paint safe"?
You should not have problems with any of the fabrics made specifically for car covers and used by CoverCraft and the other manufacturers of quality car covers, provided you follow the proper precautions: 1) Never put a car cover on a dirty car and 2) keep the cover clean. If proper precautions are not taken, then any cover can cause scratches. Here's another link you may want to take a look at: Care 4 Your Cover.
Also, never transport a car on an open trailer with the cover on. This can damage the paint very quickly.
Hope this helps and good luck with the cover.
