Default 1999 C5 Questions

Hi, I am new here and I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a 1999 Silver/Grey Corvette. It has 49,500 miles and I am going to the dealership tomorrow to order my new 2006 C6. My dealer has offered me MSRP less $2000. I was a little bummed because I have (had) a supplier discount, but GM has now removed the Corvette from the supplier discount. One of my concerns is about my trade in value. I live in Texas. Does anyone know how much I should expect to get in trade? My car is a daily driver, but has low miles and is in excellent shape. I have looked at the blue books, Nada, Kelly, but the vary quite a bit. My second question is about the Z51 package on the 2006. Everyone tells me I should get it, but I am not sure why. I did have rotor problems at first with my C5 until they replaced them. Any help that anyone can give would really be appreciated. Have a nice day!

In my area trade in value, with the miles that you stated,
18000 to 19000, but that would be only if you are trading
for a new vette, friend just did it 2 weeks ago.
As for the Z51 package, that depends on how you wont
to drive it, spirited driving go with the package.
Good luck on the trade

Not too bad on the C6 - they are still not doing much dealing off MSRP around here. Your car is probably worth about $19K, but that value could vary by your location. Best of luck getting that new C6.

I think the trade in value is 18-19k as others have said. As for the z51 I don't see how you could live with out it but I guess it is a personal choice.

You can get more for your car if you sell it yourself. Traiding it in will cost you about $5,000. It's your money.

Could not tell from your post if the trade in is a Vert, Coupe, FRC.

If it is a Vert, expect approximately $20K - coupe, as others stated, $19K.

As to the Z51 - get it, even though you ma\y not envision that it is an absolute need today. Resale will be better, and during your ownership it will be an enjoyable option, IMO.

Best of luck (and the $2k off MSRP is good, but check around, you may get a better offer).

both trading and selling privately have pluses & minuses. selling privately can be a pita & entails some legwork but when i sold our c4 i had great fortune to sell it to a retired attorney. very smooth transaction. the downside of trading is that the dealer will try to hose you on what they give you. an upside of trading is that the value of the trade will offset, to some extent, the cost and therefore for those states which charges sales tax, you can save some moolah that you could put to whatever use. good luck. bub

If you can find yourself a private sale buyer before you trade it in to the dealer you can take the buyer in with you and just have the dealer do the necessary paperwork in selling to the buyer at the price you agreed to sell it for. This way the buyer gets a decent deal and pays the sales tax on his purchase and you only have to pay the tax on the difference between the trade and your new car price. Most dealers would gladly do this for you. This is perfectly legal and it keeps the state from collecting double sales tax on the sale of your used vehicle. If you just sell to a third party for cash then you will have to pay sales tax on the whole purchase price for your new car(first payment of the double taxation). When the used car buyer goes to register his vehicle he will have to pay the sales tax again resulting in double taxation on the sale of what could have been your trade-in. So, take your choice in getting screwed by the dealer giving you 4,000-5,000 less than your car is worth or having the tax man take you to the cleaners. Decisions, decisions!!!!

I drove my buddies Z51 C6 and you don't want to get anything but that package. It was a awesome handling car and the suspension was so responsive...it was far superior to my C5 that does not have the Z51 package.
