This is just totally unbelievable!!! Glass Top
Well I got my new GM glass top at a great price last week to replace the one that flew off the car when I forgot to latch it down (yea I know...really stupid). But that's just the start of this fiasco.
When I got the top the weather-stripping channels and weather-stripping were not already installed. So...I spent about 3 hours trying to get it installed correctly so there were no leaks. Must have put it on, tested it, took it off, adjusted it, put it on, tested it, etc. 4-5 times. Couldn't quite get it water tight. The crappy drawings and scant instructions that GM enclosed with the top were no help at all.
So I finally conceded that I couldn't do it and decided to call a well recommended local Chevrolet dealer (near M-burg, Pa). The body shop manager told me to drop it off and they could take care of it.
I dropped the car off Tuesday and popped open the trunk to show him the new glass top and where it was leaking. (Important note-I had the original arctic white top on the car since it was calling for rain that day)
Three days later he calls and tells me the car is ready. My wife takes me to the Chevy dealer to pick up the car. (Here's where it really gets scary). My coupe is parked inside their breezeway (right where I left it three days earlier). The white top was still on the car and the glass top in the trunk. He told me that they took the top off, removed the weatherstripping tracks and used some sealant and weatherstripping caulk to seal the channel between the roof and weatherstripping. I started to get faint. I asked...Did you fix the glass top????? He said no, we fixed the white top. (Tears begin to well up) I said the white top was perfect...no leaks. It was the original factory top that we only used twice since be got the car.
(Holding back tear) I said that top wasn't the one I wanted fixed...it was the glass top. He began to apologize and told me there was a misunderstanding. After I calmed down I got in the car and went home. When I got home I tested the white top with the garden hose...IT NOW LEAKS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A perfectly good top now leaks. Now both tops leak!!!! We went back down this morning and I broke the news to him. After talking for a while he said there was a company that specializes in dealing with this sort of problem and that he would have them look at it...he's sure they will be able to fix them.
I just can't believe this happened.
What are you supposed to do to find a reliable body shop/repair shop that you can actually trust to know what they're doing with a vette?
If anyone lives in the Central PA area and can recommend places to take a C5 for body and mechanical work I would appreciate any suggestions for the future.

my car was at the dealer for close to a week when i bought my new top.i couldn't believe they don't send it assembled, first off, then the idiots needed close to a week to get it right, and they almost destroyed the surrounding weatherstripping in the process!!!they ordered a piece that ripped...about 3 months ago...and haven't called me since!!AND I AIN'T CALLING THEM!!!nobody touches the vette anymore, except for mods.i'm going to start doing my own oil changes!it's horrendous that they look at the vette like it's a foreign car!!!

Hey vette99coupe---don't you have a Corvette Club in your area??? I would trust a fellow Corvette owner before I'd trust the stealer. Just a thought. Best of luck brother. Keep us posted.

That's another problem. He wrote down all the information on a notepad he had in his pocket...who knows what happened to that. Next time (anywhere) I will make sure it's all documented correctly and ask for a photocopy.

Hope you can get them to fix this. What a fiasco. Maybe next time you should draw them a picture to follow.
