My 98 Vert. locks when I walk bye. Just changed batteries in key FOB and it started. Switch for passive is in off. pos. I re-learned the FOB's after batt. replacemnt. ANY SUGGESTIONS.....
Usually means either a dud battery or your fob had more problems than just the battery and you need to replace it. I'm betting on a bad fob. Look for one on Ebay.

I had something simular happen. Turns out the passive switch was still on. I'd take the fob apart again and look at the rubber piece with the buttons and make sure they are seated properly. I think that was causing the passive switch to be on when it should not have been.

Make sure the "PASSIVE" switch is off - take a small screwdriver or something like that and really slide the switch all the way to the left as far as it will go.
I have a '98 also - and I once made the mistake....."Hey, how does this work?" Never again!

Sorry guy's didn't tell you this is wile its in my garage when I walk by WITHOUT the keys. At first I thought it was the keys as I leave them on the floor when its in my garage.
It's probably both locking and unlocking every few minutes. My '98 does the same thing if I leave the key fob too close to the car, like even in my kitchen. What it's doing is sensing the fob and thinking you're appraoching the car and automatically unlocking it. It will cycle through this every few minutes, continually locking and unlocking the car. You just happen to be walking by and hear it happen.
I once left the key in the kitchen (immediately above the garage) while out of town for an extended period. When I got home the car battery was dead from repeatedly activating the locking mechanism. I now keep the keys at the other end fo the house, out of range of the car's sensor.
I think there's a way to deactivate the auto-unlock from the DIC if it's really a problem. I think it's in the OPTIONS menu.

I've been trying to disable the passive option for over a year. Only thing that finally worked for me discovered totally by accident - kept one of my FOB's out of range for over a week. Then, when I used it (or tried to), it wouldn't work. I re-sync'ed (held lock/unlock buttons) until the horn honked, and it finally worked without the passive option. Then I traded FOB's and used the same procedure for the secondary.
Sliding the switch on or off never would work for me and I couldn't find anything under options on the DIC that would allow me to turn off this function.
