I just jumped into my car and the stupid SERVICE COLUMN LOCK came on, this had the recal done (I thought) i have a 2002 MN6 and the car is supposed to go in at 8.00 am for a set of long tubes and today is Sunday, i leave Thursday for Portland ---HELP SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
I can't help you, but if you look at the top of the C5 General page, you will see a tab that says "Search This Forum". Use the search tool to look up other discussion about this problem. It will save you time waiting for others to reply. Good luck...
go out to the car ****** the wheel really hard and turn the key. mine does this all the time. (4 times now) this has worked every time. you might try letting the car idle for a little while too with every thing turned off. if the cause was low voltage at start up this can help. just turn the car off, pull the key, wait 10 seconds then try to restart it. if that does not do it then do the wheel ******.
Why is anyone on this forum still having column lock problems. This has been rehashed for over a year. There is a huge sticky at the top of the Tech page. 1st mod when you buy a vette is to get a CLB. I have no sympathy for anyone who has not done this 10 minute mod. Sorry if this seems harsh, but we are still getting 4 or 5 "Help, my column is locked" posts a week. F*&% the recall, get a CLB!!

Call the dealer and have them run the VIN to be sure it was done. If not, get it done. I bought my Column Lock Bypass from THUNDERRACING for $50 and it was an easy and helpful, mind easing mod. Hope things work out for you.

I don't understand why people believe the dealer recall will fix an MN6. IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM! It only cuts the fuel off if the steering lock fails to unlock.

Because nothing in the GM recall document states otherwise, and nobody at the dealer will inform the customer otherwise
GM isnt going to come out and say "the recall for the column lock does not fix the column lock issue,we just want you to take time out of your day so we can reprogram your vehicle so our butt is covered with NHTSA,and maybe this issue will go away before some one gets killed"

If you have a 6 speed, the recall service is useless.

If you get the wheel unlocked - violently moving side to side - you have CLB distributer in Calgary - Western Corvettes - good people to work with. They have a good product and you can have it fixed before your trip. I installed mine last week and id I can do it anyone can
