No problems after that but, it only took me about 9 seconds to order my CLB from Thunder Racing

I got the message. What I did was hit the lock, then unlock, open the door, close the door, started the car and took off.

Doesn't neccesarily mean anything. It happened several times over the 6 years I had my 97 and I never had a column lock problem. One time I was sitting at a traffic light when the message happened. Luckily I had time enough to do what the message said. When I restarted the car their was no problem and I never saw the message again.

Interested to see what was the real case.

Hope it is all just a glitch that needs nothing at all to take care of. Try the opening door and closing and hitting buttons thing like posted above.

I find mine does this if I pull the key then stick it back in very quickly.

Other things such as a dirty resistor pellet on the ignition key or other problems with the resistor pellet or ignition switch can cause this message to display. Your Owner's Manual may also speak to other possible causes [look under Driver Information Center (DIC) > DIC Warnings and Messages].

Also, see the following thread currently going around in C5 Tech:

I got the same message in my new Z once. Once...

Luckily, the column didn't lock up.

I parked the car and didn't drive it for a week or so until the CLB got shipped, then received & installed by me!

Piece of mind.
