Is there any conventional wisdom on getting expanded coverage AFTER the extended warranty has expired. The quote I am getting from GM is about $1,700 for 3 years or 30,000 miles. I have about 45,000 miles on my car now and expect to keep it for at least 3 years. Any thoughts?
I bought it and it was a Godsend. They replace the entire differential at 43K because of two bad bearings (and the L/H side cover leaking) Would have been approx $2600.00 out of pocket.
Unless GM has recently changed their policy they do not offer any further service contracts after the initial purchase of the GMPP. When that plan expires you are on your own.
Try Warranty Direct. A number of CF members recommended them to me for an extended warranty for my 03 and everyone spoke highly of them. I spoke to them this morning after conducting a long study on them. The customer service people where the most helpfull I have ever talked with. Plan on going with them this September.

Extended warranties are like any insurance policy - you hope you never need them but if you do, they can save you a lot of money on a major repair. If it were me, I'd get the warranty. The C5 has some parts that can be costly to repair.

GM did change their policy regarding extending their GMPP. To extend it, you must do it atleast 90 days b/4 your GMPP expires. There are also some mileage restrictions---can't remember what they are.
You are correct. Actually what happens is that your former extended warranty policy is cancelled and the new policy "kicks in". This must be done at least 90 days and no less than 3,000 miles before the original policy expires. So in essence you arre losing three months of coverage and whatever unused miles are on the original policy.
