Problem resetting oil life guage?

Problem resetting oil life guage?
Went through the steps but all i get is a blank line.I did not get oil changed yet because it is going in next week.But every time I start car it says change oil and it is starting to annoy me.

2001 – 05 Corvette
1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
2. Press the TRIP button so the OIL LIFE percentage is displayed.
3. Press RESET and hold for two seconds. OIL LIFE REMAIN 100% will appear.
or this for #3, press the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.

Sometimes you have to hold the reset button down for more than two seconds. Mine has done this before and when I held the button down a little longer, the correct percentage popped up.
