So, I was sitting at a light, on the way home from work, when I hear / feel something jar me and my trunk opens.
Look in the mirror and see a S10 front grill.
So, get out and talk with Kid that t just hit me.
Look at the damage, which does not look to bad at first sight.
Cracked my backup light, scratched around my License area and maybe a couple small scratches.
We were both completely stopped and he took his foot from the break and rolled into me.
What got me wondering is my trunk lid (Z06) opened from the impact.
I guess the impact popped the trunk but I was wondering "if my trunk opened on impact, what other unknown damage might there be?"
Is this common?
Any thoughts?
That's too bad. I imagine that it could have compressed the rear bumper enough that it would pop. Does the lid close normally still??
Sorry to hear about your accident.
Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. It was about $1,200.00 on the estimate before tear down. They're up to $3,000.00 as of today. I can send you an itemized listing of what was repaired next week when my car is finished (If you want). -Ed
Tht is quite a bit. I hope I will not need to go that far.
I was out of town the last couple of days. I will get an estimate on monay.
I drive as much by my rear view mirror as I do looking out the windshield. It is scary when you see them coming up fast on you. I always leave a car length or more in front of me just in case I need to try to escape.
He was a bit behind me, then as we waited, he just rolled into me.
Good thing I had my break on or I would getting the front fixed too.
The only way to know for certain is to take the bumper fascia off and check for damage. Any good shop is going to take the rear bumper fascia off if the rear fascia is going to be properly painted. Les Stanford's body shop told me that the time to remove and replace the rear fascia was 3.4 or 3.8 hours. I understood this to include removal and replacement of the styrofoam rear absorber which their parts dept priced out at approx $166.00.
I read a thread (I cannot remember where) about what to ask the body shop about how it intends to prepare and paint the bumper fascia. I am looking for that thread as the bumper fascia on my daily driver needs to be repainted. If you find this thread, please let me know.
I closed the lid and everything looks fine. lines up properly and all.
If you bring it to the shop to get painted, they will have to remove the rear bumper or pull it enough away to spray it. That will be the time to get a look at the damage.
Glad to see you were not hurt!! I was hit last year in my BMW 325 Vert, but when he rear ended me it deployed the anti roll bars behind the rear head rest. This also cut the fuel off for thirty minutes. To make a long story not longer. I was hit and he ran. I was out $5800 bucks. !!!!!
Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope everything turns for the better. Did you at least get a police report done so that the dime will be coming from his insurance?
