When the C5s came out I was wowed by the instrument cluster lighting up as the door is opened. Since then, I have purchased a 97 and have had it 3 years now. Great car! My guages do not light up as I remember the showroom car doing. I have scoured the Service Manual for a clue and can't find anyone who can help me determine how to make it work as it should. Anyone got an answer?

Considering there are 2 black, fluorescent bulbs lighting the gauges, I don't know why they would be dimmer? I would understand if they flickered, or just didn't light up at all, but fluorescent lights don't usually "dim".
That's odd .... unless they just aren't fully lighting up (you'd see a flickering kind of pattern), in which case, maybe try and track down replacement bulbs and see if that works. If you are half way mechanically inclined, you can change those out w/o a problem.
ditto here. they come on when i open the door & when we park the car, they stay on. in both cases, on-time is circa 30 seconds. i believe this is specifically mentioned in the om. bub
