Default C5 Lifting precautions

I was having a discussion with a friend the other day when we both had our C5's on the lift. I noticed he had both his doors cracked open hood popped but not up and top out. He claimed it was good to let the body flex to avoid damaging body panels. I was under the impression that this stuff was a no no as it can result in serious damage due to flexing of the car. His car came back down fine and still drives great. So my question is, are there really any concerns as to having the doors, hood, and hatch open while on a frame lift? What about having the top out of a coupe?

It used to be standard operating procedure on C4's & earlier models because there was so much "flex" in the frame. Not required for C5, which has a very stiff structure.

Discount Tire still does it when they put the car up but it's not necessary with the C5.
It won't hurt anything if they do it though!
