Default Blackwing install HELP!!!!!!

Just installed the blackwing tonight on a 98 C5. The instructions were crap. But then again I have never worked on a car before. But it took me 2 1/2 hours to do.

First the rubber coupler/gasket seal thing that went around the MAF sensor did not seem to work well with the new power duct I bought. Balckwing side connected fine. So I didn't use it and just tighted the clamp as tight as I could and it seem to hold the MAF to the power duct. Is this going to be ok????

Second I bought a nice yellow coupler to go on the throttle body end and it was way to big on the one end(desiged for the stock air bridge I suspect). So I had to go with the plain black one that came with the power duct. Dissappointed!

Then there was no directions on what to do with the vaccum line that was pluged into the stock accordian coupler. So I drilled a small hole in the new black coupler and removed it again to get any debris out and inserted the vaccum line in and it is snug. Was this ok to do????

Other than that I hope I am fine. I could tell the previous owner had a aftermarket air intake system and then returned it to stock when he sold it to me. The hose going to the filter was missing and so were the grommets on the front wall where the air filter housing attaches. But all seemed to fit good and a new hose has been connected.

Any advice on the two questions I had would be helpful.

Thanks!

Chris

Sounds like you did all you could. I installed on today on an 04. Used the stock bridge and kept the same accordian tube to the TB. I didn't have a vaccum line (so I seem to remember. better go check) My only problem is now my temp gauge is screwed. When I start the car it registers the actual temp then falls all the over to 260. I am trying to someone to let me know if there is some kind of reset or what since I had the neg battery unhooked.

I just installed a duel conical filter setup on my 98. It was a pain, but pretty straight forward. If I remember, there was a hose to plug in at the base of it and two electrical connectors(1 MAF not sure what the other one was for, and one Vacuum line in the accordian. Took me about 45 minutes.

There are two different install kits for the Blackwing, depending on year. I don't remember for sure the years, but I think it was '97-'99 and '00-up. I'd guess you've got some parts for the later models. Mine went on with no problems other than one tight fit on a coupling (stock air bridge).

I guess they just assume you are using everything that is stock with the filter. There was no directions with the new coupler. So I just drilled a small hole in the coupler near the throttle body and inserted the vaccum line. Hope this alright! My only other concern is with the rubber seal that goes on the MAF between the MAF and the Bridge. The new power duct was beyond a pain to get this rubber seal on so I went without it. This is where most of my time was spent trying to figure out what to do!

I guess we will see in the morning when I take it out!
