I just acquired a 2001 Vert with stock wheels.
The former owner put new tires on it. In the process they new tires needed rebalancing. The tire shop removed the old stick on weights that were mounted on the front of the wheel ( visible ) now there is an unsightly mess from the original tape backing and glue from the stick on weight. Anyone else had this problem? I know these adhesives are solvent based and I'm sure I will find something to take it off, but I don't want to wreck the clearcoat in the process.
Rich, check in the vanity or medicine cabinet. You probaly already own some. There's other stuff around like goo-be-gone etc. but you can't use that stuff for anything else.

I use 3M Adhesive Remover. Can get it at Pep Boys, Kraegen, Checker Auto...........
My friend found a creative way of doing this last weekend. Drive 3 20 minute sessions at Summit Point Raceway. Park your car so that the wheel weights are at the top of the wheel. Wait 2 minutes and watch the weights and the adhesive fall off right before your eyes. Funniest thing I had seen in a while.
In other words, just drive your car like mad and heat up the wheels, brakes, and rotors. This stuff will just melt off.
