oil guage problems

Default oil guage problems

has anybody had oil guage major flux to where is turns on check engine, while the car is still running ? OIL LEAVEL OK . THE GUAGE SAYS 80 PSI WITH ENGINE OFF, READOUT SAYS 130 . STARTS AT 80 STATS ENGINE AND IT STAYS THERE THEN STARTS FLUX DROPS TO 0 THEN BACK TO 80 .MY 91 PICK UP HAS AN OIL PRESS SWITCH THAT CUTS OFF THE FUEL PUMP RELAY I ASSUME THE VETT DOES TO . TBHE WIFE HAD IT TOWED HOME LAST THURS SHE DID SEE THE GUAGES. THE MANUAL SAYS THAT IF SIGNAL FROM COMPUTER IS NOT RIGHT IT FORCES GUAGE TO READ 0. IF SENDING UNIT IS THE PROBLEM HOW MUCH TROUBLE TO CHANGE? THE MANUAL SAYS THAT YOU HAVE TO PULL THE INTAKE. ANY TRICKS ? THANKS BRAD THE SCREEN SAYS TO CLICK ICON TO START QUICK REPLY BUT CAN'T FIND IT YEA IM NEW TO THIS

First, you need to turn off the caps lock on your key board. Typing in all caps is considered as yelling on the Forum.

Sounds like it may very well be your oil pressure sensor. A number of others here on the Forum have reported theirs have gone bad too. The following article from the C5 Tech Tips section of the Forum has information on replacing the oil pressure sensor. I'm not certain though that the sensor part number shown there is the latest, but perhaps someone else here can advise as to the latest number.

I have the same problem... its your sensor dude!
A shop around the corner quoted me about $350 to change the sensor!!! I'm waiting a month or so until it cools down and then I'll do it myself.

Do it yourself... it looks fairly straight forward.

It is an easy replacement... Located on top of engine behind intake on passenger's side. Get sensor and sensor socket from local parts store.

thianks my first thought was that but to the #2 ?i thought that no oil press would shut off fuel pump relay?
