Default First "real" mod... help me decide

Well, I've gotten CAGS, and some cool floor mats, and oh, the hood seal..

but I want a "real" mod.. was reading a bit on here about the C6 shifter being better than the C5... Was wondering if it was worth it... I am not going to race it, I just want a smoother shift, and a shorter shift...

I went to the Chevy dealer and asked if they had a C6 shifter, and the guy looked at me like I was crazy and told me they didn't sell them... he told me to go to some "performance" shop on line or in the city to buy one...

Cant you buy one at the Chevy Dealer? I would think that if I had a C6 and the shifter went out, thats where I would go!?

Any thoughts? thanks!

Check with Fred Beans Buick Pontiac GMC and Fichtner Chevrolet, both who are Forum supporting dealers/vendor. They most likely will have some of the best prices. Fred Beans had the C6 shifters on special last month, but I haven't seen a post on their specials yet for this month. You might call to see if they would still honor the July special. Here's a link to the last specials that I saw for both vendors:

FICHTNER CHEVROLET C5 & C6 PARTS SPECIALS

Hope this helps and good luck.

The C6 shifter is supposed to have a much better feel to it and a shorter throw. It would be a good choice. Fred Beans or Fichtner Chevy are two good sources for the parts.

Also, I'd recommend caution at your local dealer if they didn't know you could get the shifter from them.

Yep, you can't find Chevy performance parts at a Chevorlet dealer. You should try to order Z06 shocks, they don't have any idea what they are w/o a part number.

I've had the C6 shifter for about 3 weeks now. I like it a lot. I'm not sure how much smoother it is compared to stock but the throw is noticeably shorter. I also like the C6 shift ****, both its appearance and the feel.

My description of the C6 shifter is that it feels comparable to the stock C5 shifter, maybe a little smoother, but with a shorter throw and a much nicer shift ****.

I ordered mine from Fred Beans.

If you want a tighter more precise shifter go with the B&M (I love it)

How much is that? Is it smoother than stock? Where can I get it?

Thanks.

I wouldn't call it smoother, much more precise is a better description. It's kind of like "snick, snick" Price wise about the same as the others - slightly north of $200.

I love mine, too!

I think i paid around $240.00 for the Hurst from WCC. Definitely not as smooth probably as the Z but i love it....Kinda partial to Hurst cause i had a 61 vette in the late sixties and i also installed a Hurst close ratio shifter. Have the chrome billet **** and billet brake....awesome looking

How about the column lock bypass, perhaps the most important "real mod" of all?

Todd, I have the B&M shifter and love it. Any of them are better than the stock ones. Check with Andy at A&A Corvettes and see what he wants for them there. They also have them on Ebay.

Thanks... I will have to look it up... as for the CLB... that will be at the same time... if I'm going to have the center console off, I can go ahead and do the CLB at the same time...
