Default Me & an sti

Don't want to get this thread locked but, let's just say I had an unpleasant experience w/ a WRX sti last Sat. I think I had the look on my face that the subie guys always say we do when...well you know. I'm stock xcept Z06Ti. Could a C5, on the track of course, possibly take an sti with just a few bolt on mods. or would it take more. Numbers say C5 to 60 in 4.5 subaru 4.8. Do I need a tune up? I know, I know.....4WD, but still. Oh the shame. Sometimes you eat the rice, sometimes the rice eats you.

AWD systems will take alot of cars off the line if you dont know how to launch your rwd really good. Hands down the vette should win, but you never know what mods the other person has!

I assume you mean a straight track?

Stock for stock the C5 should win, but it can depend on the launch, and he'll likely get you off the line due to the AWD. If you launch poorly it may take the 1/4 to get him back.

On a curvy track, the kind I prefer, the WRXs are VERY good in tight twisties, Ss and such, but in all honesty I think a well setup Vette is just as fast through all but the tightest turns, and clearly faster on the straights.

Default Challenged?

I get these challenges all the time. I just act like in my heart I know I'm faster and I have nothing to prove to anyone.
Besides it gives me absolutely no satisfaction at all to eat rice.

My other car (which is currently for sale) is an Eagle Talon AWD.
has some good high performance mods.
That car will definately get my vette off the line, if launched correctly.
but who cares! it's a riceburner, and needs to get out of my life!!!
I hope someone buys it soon....

seriously, how does a turbo car "sound stock"? you know they can up the hp to the wheels on those cars by quite a bit with relatively easy mods... and, if my observations of my brother's friends that drive those turbo cars are any clue..... MOST do.

very few of them are stock REGARDLESS of what the driver say.

The last time I ran Road Atlanta there were two WRX Sti's there. Both cars, when in front of me, were Blue Flagged (this means let the faster car behind you pass). However, the stock C5's there were having a hard time against them, but the C5's were running stock tires.

not sure, never took it to the track or dyno, not trying to be start any BS, but I know that the talon can get my vette on a straight away, and maybe hang in some twisties, if a DSM should pull up next to you it should never be doubted, but thats irrelevant to me now, ever since I picked my the vette, I dont even want to look at my Talon anymore , C5 is a beautiful car.
and like Sgt. Pyle says

i dont know why many of you corvette owners look at all "rice" is bad. I've had a eclipse AWD turbo(19 psi, no normal street vette will take it off the line and will spank a stock STI)), and a Toyota Supra turbo, and these are all amazing cars, with great aftermarket support for those who want to tailor their cars to their tastes. I will admit, "The fast and the furious" did not help out the import world as far as getting young adults into the "ricing out your ride and buying every LED or neon at the local autozone". But look at it this way, these young people are getting excited about their cars, from Dodge neons(ugh) to Scions . When was the last era we can say so many youths and families got so strongly in the car scene? 60's-mid 70's. Those were great times for cars. We should not try to look down at them, but maybe educate them in what's really works and why(you mean my AEM intake won't get 30 hp out of the box as advertised??)
With that being said, I have seen 271 WHP civics that were breathtaking and I have seen 140 HP Dodge stratus with a three foot wing, 4" round coffee can muffler, and NOS stickers all over it revving at the stoplight. There is some good "rice" and bad "rice", just like good vettes and stink ugly vettes, it's all in the beholder. BTW, why is an asian car called a "rice"? Should we call corvettes "Yanks"? Holden Monaco(AKA pontiac GTO) "Kiwi's"?), It's kinda racial,

P.s.After having one of my posts locked for uh...well, you know...I'm surprised no one is "IB4TL"-ing or there is a threat of a lock just because noone mentioned anything "unapproving", even though we know what we are all talking about!

It's all about the launch in most cases.

I'm just saying that the first thing ricers do is make their cars way loud. Much louder than stock. This one d sounded relatively quiet.

I hate Scooby drivers. Alot of them that I had encountered seem to think that their car can take on anything that has 4 wheels.

The STi will take you off the line, if it does not break first. AWD launches take its toll on the center diff and depending on how the track is setup and driver skill, it may DOA. Lots'a tack + AWD = BOOM

Vettes are stable in high speeds so you will take him there. On a track with nice straightaways, a modded Vette will have no problem. The corners are another story though, they stick like glue on pavement so it's easier to drive them.

To the guy who has a DSM,

I have a DSM too and it will take on my C5 off the line anytime - and that's it. The 2G DSM is something I revere because I drive one and I spent alot of time modding one. Looking into a EVO as a DD soon.

Don't feel bad - I got scorched by white WRX a couple of weeks ago (I'm '00 bone stock conv. MN6). He got a jump on me but didn't make any difference.

Just a little more info. This was hardly a race. Never broke the limit. I was just surprised at the rate at which the little ricer pulled away. Wonder if something was wrong with my car. BTW calling me a yank (technically a yanker) would be a compliment. Thanks all for replies.
