MIne was actually out of warranty, but the dealer fixed it under warranty. The service manager said that the entire module was fried. If I had to pay for it, he said it would cost around 3 grand!
YO.. I had this message in my black 2002 Z-06 and so I pulled over, shut the engine down ...checked the traction control button..then restarted the car and it reset. It went away for 3 months, then happened again, so I went thru the same rigamaroll and it worked & reset. I think it happens sometimes because something is set down on (or dragged across) the traction control button (near the gear shift) and possibly the button doesn't get pushed in or out completely. I also discovered after a time... that tire life expectancy was different in this Z-06 then in my 1973 & 1984 Corvettes..So i put a new set of tires on and the DIC did not record the message for another 8 months. Finally...one day the message came on & it did not reset and at 38,000 miles I had the dealership repair the traction control...Total Cost: $1,000 for a module or at least thats what they called it. I have no trouble since...but then i change tires about every 15,000 miles cuz this bad girl drives like a banshee loves the curves and takes turns without slowing down much at all. Life is short.
Same problem with my 02. BMPV and ECBM replaced $2981.43 covered under warranty.
3 weeks ago my 02 had the same thing. The dealer covered it. He said it would have cost $3K to fix. Does it chime when you start the car and continue to chime after you shut it off?
Mine would do that when I switched to SS brake lines... then I put better SS lines on w/ AN fittings and never had the problem again. The SS lines on the first time around weren't properly grounding and they'd build up a static charge and throw off th wheel speed sensor.
JUst got mine fixed yesterday. The EBCM got fried when the battery tender I had on the Z got hit in elec storm( see my post below ) Mine was repaired under warranty, but the dealer told me it was a $400 module and the whole job would have been $700 if not under warranty. Be careful with trickle chargers, if you live in area prone to elec storms. I know I will in the future. Actually I've had a couple Battery Tenders get hit over the years. This is the first time to damage vehicle though. I'm having second thoughts about replacing it. I got no info from the Company in Fl. that makes them, basically " oh Well"
Homeowners Ins. will not cover a vehicle that can be registered and insured on it's own. I have both house and vehicles with same co. and years back when I would take my toy at the time of the road and cancel insurance for the winter, my agent warned me if there was a fire or any other catastrophe or god forbid was stolen out of the garage it would not be covered under homeowners policy. Since then I only drop collision for the winter months.
