Why the heck is the exhaust on those new Mustang GTs so loud? Is it just for intimadation? If the stang is stock I figure my Vette will blow it away easily.Never liked those Mustangs right from their start in 64
My neighbor bought a new Mustang and they do sound good right from the dealers lot. New GTO's sound good as well. Can't understand why new C5's and C6's don't sound better stock.
I was driving today and a Mustang was coming the opposite direction about to pass by me. As it approached I thought to myself "what a piece of garbage". Turned out he had some exhaust work done at which point I thought to myself "...but they sure do sound good". Like mvvette97 said, all bark and no bite.
The guys with the Blue Oval figured out long ago that the muscle car sound is esential. To bad the General is not as clever. Soooo, we dump money into the makers of after market exhaust systems.
If I didn't know better I'd swear it was a racket!
this is going to sound horrible, but when we were looking to get a more exciting ride, there was 2% of me that said get a new black mustang gt w/ 5 speed just for that sound------------however reason & clear thinking prevailed & we got the c5 (which we have never regretted for a single split second!). there is something about that mustang gt sound that reminds one of the pony/muscle cars of long ago. bub
Hardly....... where else can you buy 300 h.p., mid 13 second e.t.'s, good looks and a warranty for 25k. Wake up guys, the General has his head up his a?? and Ford did it again. With that being said, I'm no Mustang lover, but I give credit where it's due,
As a former mustang owner (black/black 97 Cobra coupe) all I can say is that it puzzles me why the Vette exhaust isn't a little more aggressive from the factory. I mean, having the power is great, but you should be able to hear/feel it too. Don't get me wrong, I have to laugh at all the compacts with the coffee can mufflers that sound like pissed off bumblebees, and I hate listening to overly obnoxious OEM exhausts on any car.
BTW, I've always liked mustangs, still do. And I agree that most 18-23 yr olds (or their parents) can't easily afford a 50k car like the vette, however a higher percentage can afford the 28-30K mustang. Bought mine at 29, and just sent in the final payment. WOOHOO!

This is one thing I have always liked better about Ford Mustangs, stock they have a decent throaty exhaust note, while stock GM Camaro/TA/Vette sound like grandma's station wagon exhaust,,so we all spend our first 700-1k on aftermarket exhaust.
I guess the General is just more conservative.

I dislike the "new" design, but 300 horses for under $25k. To me that sounds like a pretty good deal. I have owned 3 Mustang Gt's ( one highly modified) and they are good cars for the money, BUT I AM SO MUCH HAPPIER WITH MY VETTE EVEN IF THE FACTORY EXHAUST IS A LITTLE QUIET!

I too had a '97 Cobra and I LOVED that car. The motor is awesome and sound is great.
