I know it helps to keep the gas gauge more accurate, but other than that it is supposed to be really good for your car. Hopefully someone will chime in and get a little more technical.
It's a additive to the gasoline, which is one reason why gas with Techron is more expensive. Techron, in a nutshell, keeps your engine clean. Geez, that's sounds like the commercial... From what I understand it's very good stuff.
Chevron also has a chemical company. It sells among other things, additive packages for oil and gasoline. Techron is their Brand name for these gas and oil additives.

I use Chevron with Techron exclusively.. what does it do? Who knows... I'm sure you can find what they say on the box... but what it REALLY does.. ?? DUnno.. would be interested if it does anything...
I recently spoke with a gentleman from GM's technical services department regarding fuel pump failures in our company fleet vehicles. He informed me of a number fuel pump failures in CA (not enough for a full blown recall of course!) due to poor quality fuel i.e.,high sulfur content and winter/summer addditives.
When I informed him I recently ordered a new C5 he discussed the importance, especially in CA, to use Cheveron because it contained Techron. Techron apparently is no sales gimmick and it is the same chemical used to remove carbon buildup on heads by all of the Big Three automotive dealerships. He sold me on Chevron and since then I have used nothing else in my cars. In addition, the August 2005 edition of Car and Driver has a great article by Larry Webster titled "Your car is a temple, so put in the good stuff".
Don't shoot me... I'm just the messenger but what I am about to say may tick off a few forum members who swear by aftermarket gasoline additives and octane boosters. Both the GM technical rep. and the above referenced article agree that most additives (especially fuel injection cleaners) may do more harm than good. Conduct your own research, (but do read the August issue of Car and Driver), stay informed, and finally, make your own decision. After all... its your car.. you make the call!

About a year back the check engine light came on, on one of our other cars a 98 bonneville. we proceeded to replace the plugs and wires and got the light off for a few weeks. Then put in Techron fuel injector cleaner and got the light off for over a month. Problem was that a bottle of Techron was needed every other week at the end. So we installed new fuel injectors two weeks ago and we'll see how it goes. so far so good. The stuff works as it cured rough idle and miss fireing on acceleration. but only temporarily.
