Yes, coming home from work Friday. Went first gear, worked up to fourth, got caught at a light and all I have is 2nd and fourth gear. Will not move into other gears. It did this about 2 months ago but snapped out of it right away. It is a Hurst shifter in it. Any ideas?

Did you lock tight or remove the shift stops in the Hurst when you installed it? I have a hurst and since our tranies have the stops in them, you do not need them in the Hurst, so most either lock tight them, or remove them, like I did. I saw posts about this, and I hope it is something as easy as this.
Just get all the way down t the shifter (councell, boot ect..) and see where the front shift stops are in the Hurst. Try backing them out and see if you can get it into a foreword gear then. I would remove them to be sure and I hops this does it. Good luck brother and I hope I am right

I'm with the Chief on this one. This has been an on going issue when folks install the Hurst with the stops and don't Loc-Tite them. Once you pull it apart and if it's the stops don't re-install them. They are not needed.
I agree with the set screw moving to cause this issue. I had the same thing happen to my Hurst except it was the rear set screw that wouldn't allow me to get into 1st, 3rd and reverse. I pulled out the set screw and all was well.
Thanks for the replys. I had to go with a new tranny, I went with the A4. Just kidding. Pulled the console and checked the stops, they were backed out, preventing the shifter to move ahead. We removed the stops altogether and reassembled it. Works great. Strange how they slowly backed out with no warning until it wont move at all. Sounds like the column lock, yikes!!
I was stopped at an intersection and when I wanted to go, the shifter was like glued to the neutral position, and the clutch was totally stuck in the fully in position. I called a towtruck and when I started her up again everything was perfectly normal.
I went to my dealer, and they had no clue what was going on.

Do any of you guys know anything about this?
Ps: I have stock shifter
Did you just do a spirited run before you came to the intersection? Damn stock clutch is weak, and will stick to the floor if you're on the power when you depress the clutch (like a power shift maneuvre). I had it happen the other day. I was on it hard in 3rd and went to slam it into 4th, but instead left it in neutral to slow down - clutch was really light, shifter wouldn't go into any gear - I killed the motor and worked both the clutch and shifter - nothing. Started he back up, and with the shifter seemingly in neutral, I released the clutch a tad - the motor almost stalls, as the thing is still in gear (3rd I assumed) - pushed the clutch back in and kept trying the clutch and gears - got it into 3rd, and then everything just freed up again. Annoying. I have an aftermarket clutch too - so it isn't just the stock unit - but it is known to do this on stock power levels.

Exactly! I just flored it in 2nd just before it happened and went to neutral and everything. Maybe that's the answer. Thanks!
