Heading back from Texas to Delaware Sunday I ran into some pretty major rain just outside Knoxville, TN. When I hit some standing water on the road my DIC came on and said "Traction Control Active" . The owners manual doesn't say much about this. Could someone answer two questions about traction control?
it is some interesting technology, what i believe part of it does, is it applies braking to certain wheels that may have spun or slipped when you go over water..hope this helps
That's a nice indepth article... 'cept it's about "active handling".
"Traction Control" is a totally different system.
Mike is right. TC was the father of Active Handling.. AH was not available in 97 and early 98 C5s, then optional for a few years (2000?), then standard equipment (2001+?). [I may be off by a year on these]
TC simply detects wheel spin and pulls the power to try to stop it. It does more harm than good IMHO. It reduces power by retarding the timing and overriding the fuel injector commands. It does not do anything with the ABS system (that is AH)
I find that after ditching the GY runflats, TC is basically useless on a stock C5 with sticky tires.
