C5's are unique. Regardless of what you may have heard about Corvettes being unreliable, the C5 is a very well designed, reliable and mostly trouble free car (until you get mod fever, then all sorts of interesting things happen). I doubt you could find another stock corvette on the forum that has all the things wrong with it that you've described. Don't make the mistake of thinking that since it's a Corvette, stuff goes wrong with it a lot and that's just the price you pay for driving a hot sports car. The C5 is as reliable as your mother's Mailbu (probably more). Look for one that's been taken care of and it'll last you a long time.
LISTEN to what these guys are telling you, THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. In every case that I have asked for help, they have been right on. DON'T BUY THE CAR. If you do buy it, don't come crying to them, they tried to warn you. In my opinion.
First off,IT'S SPELLED ADVICE! Now,to the issue...Why would you want to buy a car that you'll be spending ALL KINDS OF MONEY ON before you even get to enjoy it.The coolant light thing could be a water pump or a CRACKED BLOCK,for all you know.Dude, look around, there's ton's of vettes out there that you won't need to fix right away!good luck.-
I just don't understand. You ask for Quick Help Please and the great people on this forum try to help you and you just will not listen to a word they say. I would say in this case Buy the car. Good Luck and I wish you the best.
I don't find these issues to be major.
I had the local chevy dealership there do a prepurchase inspection on the car and also a compression check yesterday and it all passed.
dont take this the wrong way at all but i get the feeling that many of you don't do any work on your vette and the headlights being stuck worries you

Take a minute and just think, [with your big head] The Forum has given you their opinion on the car you are set on ,We all have been there with the same argument you have but it was with our parents, the more you argue, the more you convince yourself that you are right and everyone else must be blind ! WELL if you can't LISTEN THEN BUY THE !#* CAR ! But please do us a favor ,don't post,....wish I had listened to you

The coolant light thing could be a water pump or a CRACKED BLOCK,for all you know.
If it was the water pump the car would be overheating. Plus it's not the overheat coolant light it's the coolant level sensor which means that it is running low on coolant but it isn't it's full. In the coolant filler neck there is a sensor that when touched by water/coolant is grounded and that tells the ecu that it's full. A cracked block would cause coolant to leak out of the engine and it would be nesessary to refil the coolant very often and would be accompanied by overheating.
Thanks for the advise everyone I'll check this car out tomorrow and report back. The advise was good, I just wish there were some facts involved...that's what persuades me. A 60 year old lady could tell you this car doesn't sound like a daisy. It could be nice or it could be a lemon we don't know until it's looked at. 30 point inspection and compression test passed perfect. My inspection comes tomorrow.
Pardon me sir..........I'm no expert on Corvettes........which is why I joined this board almost 2 years ago.
Although I'm no expert on these cars, many of the guys on this board are about as close as you can get. If they wern't I certainly wouldnt have read this board for 2 years and resorted to it before anything else when a c5 problem arose.
This being said, my question to you is as follows .........
Why would you put all your apples in one basket and take a chance on a car with so many problems, when there are so many other c5's for sale in immaculate condition for the same or just a little more money?
Is it worth it too you to make a possible bad investment when foresight could have prevented it?
Experience is a late teacher.
I dont know if this is a taboo question but how much are you going to get the car for? It must cost a few $$$ to just get the parts to fix this stuff, even if you do all the work your self.
Just trying to figure out why you have your eyes set on this one. Is it for the fun of the fix? Price to good to pass up? Just want a project?
with what 's been said, unless he willing to have a major drop
in the price to cover the repairs, believe me by what you stated, you
have some major ........................

Absolutely to two of your questions. The price is right and I think I can fix the other problems in a weekend and still have saved a few thousand after. I don't want a project lol. I consider a project modding a car or finding one that needs engine and paint work etc. This one is in fantastic shape inside and out from the 30 pics I've seen from his digital camera. I figure even if I got a used engine and trans installed I'd still be ok. But like I said even in my first post and I guess everyone read over it...I'm going to make an educated and strictly business decision once I see the car and drive it and test those systems which have problems.
Thanks everyone. I should charge ya'll tomorrow to see the outcome and either make some money to pay for the tickets or for mods for the vette lol.
Thanks for everyone's help. You guys have some nice taste, these cars are amazing. I drove it home 1,200 miles 800 of those in a row just stopping for gas averaging 27mpg. I ended up replacing with new oem parts the oil pressure sending unit and the coolant level sensor in the overflow tank. I was lucky the dealership let me work on the car right there because had those 2 problems not been fixed I wouldn't have bought it. That left only the abs and traction control lights on which I will pay to have replaced this week...I'll start a new thread asking a couple of questions about that stuff.
I got a great deal on the car and I'm extremely happy with it.

the thing im most worried about is the water level light as that pertains to the engine
I really appreciate the help and advise please keep it coming.
Also I'm trying to see what you guys are seeing...im thinking really hard about it and I still feel I'm making a wise choice and not one out of pure excitement.
I'm going to fly tomorrow to inspect and drive the car. I'm staying with my cousin whos 20 minutes from there. I'd have had him look at it but he doesn't know anything. So if I don't like it, I'll just stay with my cousin for a bit and then fly back no real loss! And yes of course the car is a sweet deal and has all the options I was looking for or I wouldn't go through the hassle.
Well, don't say you weren't warned. Most of the owners on this site do their own repairs. You appear to be buying a lemon, and a looooong way from home. I think what could have been miles of smiles for you will turn in to hours of garage time and frustration. I can't understand why you created this thread asking for advice, and then refute what is given
Hello sir. I know the thread is long and it's hard to read everything. You can look at the post right above yours for the final details. I am back at home with the car and it is going to be taken for a full outside detail tomorrow! I can't wait to see it after as it almost looks brand new now.
