The Ripper is MUCH more firm/stiff than the stock shifter. It's night and day, really. Some people love it. Others think it's too stiff (I fall in to the second category). It is certainly more precise, though.
I'd try before you buy. That way you'll know for sure if it's the shifter for you.
Go with the redesigned B&M if you decide to get one. I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and love it. It's no where near as "noisy" as some of the other shifters out there and you won't have to tear up your rubber boot when you install it. The rubber boot fits better around the base

I didn't even put the boot on. I like the sound of the gears that travel up the linkages. I know I'm weird lol.
I have had the B&M for about 2 years - zero missed shifts, zero problems. Not too stiff (for me, is for some) and with the MDW shift **** I have zero vibration noise.
Yes, I am a fan ......

The B&M is a mighty good replacement for the OEM lever... I have had both B&M shifers... the original billet shifter does tend to be noisey and too stiff for some folks... I purchased the redesigned C5/C6 B&M a couple of months ago and find it is a great compromise.. the "feel" is not as clicky or direct as the orginal B&M because of the isolation in the shaft (like the OEM shifter) however the throws are still short and much more precise than the OEM... and the isolation makes it almost as quiet as the stocker!!! The handle will accept after market *****, the OEM C5 **** and demon key, plus it is drilled for the C6 screw that hold that **** in place. (makes it easy to fit a C6 **** on your C5 without drilling if you wanted) Both B&M levers are great... if the new version hadn't come out I would have installed the original on my Z06 and been happy.
I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have been looking at LAPD's GP on the forum regarding the short throw shifters. They are offering the B&M Ripper and the Hurst shifters at a nicely reduced price ( http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...06&forum_id=53 ). My question is, what is the difference in these two shifters? Is the "throw" about the same? Is there a difference in the feel? I know we all have our own opinions about produces, but I'd love some feedback from you all on your experience and preference between the two. TIA

I have had both a Hurst and a BPP and removed them both, mainly because I did not like the side to side effort and particularly the force
to shift into 5th. Do you think the new B&M design has a softer side load than the original shifter? I experimented with some very soft springs, but still felt it was to stiff for my needs. I am currently running the stock shifter, shortened about 1-1/2 inches...

TOOGECKO,
I would have to say that the effort required to shift into 5th is close to the same with the latest design of the B&M.. personally I spend a lot more time in 1 - 4 so the extra grunt to move over into that gate isn't a problem for me... I suppose if I were doing a lot of daily hiway driving it would be more important to me.
