Why replace lock motor with colum lock recall?
Hi,
What do you guys think?
I have a 1998 A4 with 26,000 miles and Firday the colum locked.
Dealer performed column lock recall and harness but said they had to replace the lock motor.
They charged me $147.74 for rack/sector/lock/bolt/actuator rod and steerinig column tilt replace. It is not much money.
Why replace a locks motor and disable the lock?

That is insane. Besides, it is a safety recall and should be N/C no matter what. Call the zone rep. That is

The Harness K kit removes the lockplate so the column physically cannot lock, and the relay in the harness will work whether it is connected to the actuator or not. (It will still send the correct signal back to the BCM to prevent fuel shutoff)

You really shouldnt have to pay anything for the column lock recall...
...and any other charges would have to be for items that were incidental to repairs...
