Default chrome hinges

I"m waiting for a new set of chrome hinges, since my other ones are rusting. So a friend tells me to clear coat them before I have them installed. Has anyone done this and is it a good idea? Does it come in a spray can and where to buy it? Thanks Doug

Clear coating chrome is sort of a good idea. If the chrome is of good quality and you maintain it you will never have a need for clear. Also it is very hard to get a clear to adhere to chrome so you could end up having a hinge that looks like junk because the clear is coming off or turned yellow. There might be a clear made specificly to ahere to chrome but I have not seen one. Personally I would not clear coat your chrome I would just polish it up once in a while and put a sealer on it.

A good coat of wax before installing will help maintain the shine.

GB's right! I always put a coat of wax on the chrome in my engine bay atleast once a week!

Smartest thing to do!

What kind of sealer do you use and once it's on can you still wax them or wipe them off with quick detailer? Thanks

A good coat of wax is best. clear coat on moving parts don't hold up to good.
