Lately I've noticed that a terrible musty smell comes out of the vents for a few minutes when I first use the A/C... The car has always been garaged ('01 w/ 14.5K miles) so I'm not real sure whats going on. Is this normal or is there an easy solution to this. Thanks in advance everyone.
When you use your A/C and then turn the car off, condensation forms in the vents/ducts. This can cause mold/fungus to grow.
If you notice in your house, after the A/C runs, when it is ready to shut off, typically the fan will continue to run for a couple of minutes after the compressor stops. This returns the ducts to near ambient temperature and prevents the mold.
Whenever you use your A/C in your car, about 1-2 minutes before you shut down the car, turn off the compressor and put the fan on high. If you do this every time it won't smell as much.
If you have a lot of odor right now, though, you may need to spray some hydrogen peroxide down the vents to kill the funk that is growing in there.

Get some stuff from the dealer called Fridgfresh...it should take care of your problem
I recently got a strange smell form the air conditioner in one of my economy cars. I realized it smelled like MICE. I found a nest in one of the ducts. You might check your C-5 for the same thing.
