Default Help - Peeling Question

Hope you can help. I have a 2001 Mill.Yellow and the front bumper, on the top edge, is peeling a little. Is that the clear coat? Almost looks like a thin layer of plastic. If so how can I get it to stop, and or how to correct?
Thanks - Walt

Yes, it is the clearcoat. Chances are if it's peeling, it's probably been painted already once. Typically factory paintjobs (as crappy as they are) don't peel on corvettes.

The only cure for it is to sand it and refinish the front cover. If the peeling is really, really tiny, you may be able to wetsand and polish the area. You'll need to use 2000-2500 grit wetsand paper.

All you are doing in this case is sanding the clear down so it's less noticeable. Then you have to polish it.

My suggestion is to take it to a bodyshop and have them look at it. Obviously the correct fix is to refinish but they may be able to doctor it up a bit if it's not too bad.

HTH's,

Mark

mine did the same thing

just got get it refinished cause its going to continue to peal all the way down

should cost less than 500 to have it done

shop around for different quotes

I got quotes as high as 1800 to have my front bumper and rear quarter panel done
but in the end got it done for 800 and its a good job

my front bumper did the exact same thing

now my rear fascia is doing it

sounds like the clear is peeling. A good body shop can fix this for you - just be sure they use the correct tint in the clear for your color.
