Are the C5 Windshields HUD specific or are they generic?
I saw one for sale on ebay for a pretty good price and asked the seller if it came from a HUD equipped car. The seller said it was from a 2000 non-HUD car, so I passed on bidding on it. Best,
From the factory, HUD equipped cars came with a different windshield specially for the HUD. However, a number of members here have said that the non-HUD windshields will work fine. I can't personally attest to this though as I have no experience with this.
I failed to mention it in my previous reply, but the non-HUD windshields are considerably less expensive. This may be the main reason some folks here with HUD equipped cars have gone to them.
I had to replace my Z06 windshield with HUD. I asked on this forum if it was needed and was told no. The quotes I received to replace the windshield were:
1) From dealer with HUD - $1300
2) Local windshield company with HUD - $800
3) Local windshield company without HUD - $500
I went with option 3 and HUD works fine. I can't tell the difference. Forum members saved me $$ again!!!!

The safety glass on the HUD windshield is stagerd to compensate for light bending as it goes thrue it. a non HUD windsield will work fine but the display may or may not be as sharp.

When and if I ever have to replace my HUD windshield, I will definitely consider the non-HUD one as it is much cheaper and still enables the HUD to be seen.
I'm ready to purchae a new windshield aswell. So far, best price for a HUD windsheild is $680 from Safetylite. I was told that if you get a non HUD windshield, the reflection would be hazy at night.

Like I said above, I've replaced mine with a non-HUD windshield and I cannot even tell the difference.
