I have had this problem a few times...but in both cases, it was due to some gas overfilling, and gas ran down the drain onto the ground. Some gas smell remained for a few days (or until I washed the car).
See if any gas is spilled, in pumping, in the area around the gas filler neck.
I have done the insulation mod to my rear wheel wells and the first time I messed up and overfilled the gas tank neck and some entered the tiny drain hole below the filler neck I had a lingering gas odor for a few days. Since then, I have very careful to not overfill and the problem has not reoccurred.
If you have insulation under that drain hole it will retain gasoline or water for some time.
After a fill up, when I park in the garage, the garage smells like gas.
How are you filling up? Remember, when syphoning gas out of the neighbors car while they are on vacation, be sure not to suck on the tube too long. Gets all up in your sinsuses and won't go away for days.
You could be having an issue with the charcoal canister. It is possible to get liquid fuel into the charcoal canister either by overfilling the tank, or a problem in the evaporative emission system. If that happens, the symptoms are as you describe. I would definitely have the evap system checked by the dealer, and get the canister replaced under warranty if it has fuel in it.
What model year is the car? There were some problems with the '04's - something about the connection between the tanks being faulty. I think there was a recall on that problem.
