New guy here, just dynoed my 02 z06 w/ K&N air filter and stock airbox mod, put down 359rwhp and 355 rwtq. I know it's not the best #'s but I'm alright w/ those #'s, the car has 48000 miles on it. I was thinking about putting some borla stingers on there and maybe some highflow cats. Does anyone have this setup and know what the gains are worthe. I'm still debateing on getting full exhaust w/ headersand x pipe or just the highflow cats and stingers. Any replys about this will help, thanks guys.

Amazing what we have grown used to so quickly. You are making more than one rear wheel HP per cubic inch!!!!!! That's awesome, not too long ago one per cubic inch at the flywheel was the goal.

With the Borlas and all other exhaust mods get any quotes about increase in performance in writing. In many cases all you will get is better sound for your money. If you think about your driving habits, unless you race, any increases are unlikely to be noticed and/or utilized, at least not very frequently. I went through a lengthy list of possible mods with mechanics and never got the same answer twice. I settled on a K&N filter and that's it.
The best advice I got was to first get some seat time. Many of us like to think of ourselves as hotshot drivers, but I wonder if very many of us really acquire the skills to get the full potential out of the Z.
Congrats and enjoy.

The only real mod on my car is the Borlas, & I dynoed at A&A 372 hp with an almost perfect AF ratio. No, their dyno was not going wacky at the time, it was a dyno day & I watched as many other Z06s were putting down 350-360 hp on average. I never had my car dynoed before the Borlas, so maybe it was strong to start with, or maybe the Borlas are giving me an extra 15 or so hp?
The Borlas are worth 0 hp increase. But, the sound is well worth the investment. You may see a couple hp increase with HF cats but, hardly worth the $$. Most '02 Z's dyno around 350-360 bone stock. The '03 and '04's seem to dyno a little better around 355-370.

Where were you when I could have used some assistance? I got into it with the owner of a 02 who claimed it was equal to the 04. I had read about changes to the fuel injection system during the 03 production year which were supposed to improve the performance of the engine, but it fell on deaf ears.
just got back from an exhaust shop that claimed he could replicate the A&A stock exhaust mod, well after letting him try to weld an aluminum test piece to the TI exhaust, well let's just say he fell short of living up to his claim. I got the mod bug bad, but don't want to throw away good money just yet. I guess the best hp increase would be to go get a set of LG's LT's and maybe leave the stock ti cat back on till I'm ready to decide what exhaust sounds the best. Thanks for all your input guys.

There were several people, including a group who raced vettes, who told me point blank it's hard to beat the titanium system. Others gave me the story that I "might" get 10-15 extra hp. I ended up spending nearly $3000 to replace the Bose system, but it sounds like you have a different use planned for your Z. It sounds like you are planning some serious racing. As you discovered finding good people to work on your Z may be the biggest challenge. Good luck.
If your looking for a sound change try electronic exhaust cut-outs
I got 6-RWHP from mine And the sound is awesome
You can go from stock sounding to NASCAR with a push of a button
I wonder if with any other car there is such a tremendous gap between the interests of the purchasers. For example, it is hard to see the Viper, with such a small cargo space, being used for daily driving, much less for weekend trips. I have yet to see a Viper, or any other exotic, at a tourist location. With the noise level that came stock with the Z it is hard for me to imagine increasing that and being able to spend an enjoyable day just driving through the mountains.
When I first purchased the Z it was so noisy that I sometimes thought the hatch was open. I could not imagine spending a day traveling in the car and not having a serious headache by the end of the day. I spent about $3000 for a higher quality stereo system and a partition to enable me to enjoy it. Some owners are dropping nearly $2000 in the opposite direction just to increase the noise, more or less. A 6 hp increase would rate only about a 1.5% increase and I wonder if even the most serious racers would see a difference. The C4 I had was rated near 350 hp and in a year of driving the Z I bet I could count the number of times on one hand where the 405 (rated) hp made a noticeable difference.
As I say the differences between owners are curious and no offense intended.

That's a good plan. Or if you want a few extra hp w/o much work; try swappiing out the air cleaner assembly for a cold air intake. It's less money and a good hp increase. Assuming you haven't already done this.

According to GM they are equal.
It's only the realy world dyno numbers that are different and it's only by ~10hp. That could easily be from GM tweaking the PCM or something else. I know my car was running pig rich from the factory. If GM leaned it out a bit in '03-'04 that could easily explain the 10 hp difference.

The differences are just that.... differences. You invested in a sound system upgrade and don't want extra noise. I turn my radio off so I can hear the sound of the quad Borlas on my daily drive to work, Walmart, mall, church, friends house, restaurants, etc.
I hope you enjoy your music as much as I enjoy mine (those Borlas singing!).

Somebody wanting Speedway White and another wanting black is different. Two people spending big bucks, one to eliminate noise, one to increase it, is material for Gary Larson's 'The Far Side'. One thing that may not be different is that both could end up deaf. I find it a bit humorous.

Those numbers are not bad at all.
I have Borla Stingers, but have no idea what they are worth. What I do know is I put on Kooks LT's with 1-7/8" collectors and the 3" X-pipe off road system and dynoed an additional 25rwhp and 30lb/ft of torque. The stingers I estimate at +/-12rwhp.
I think I've decided, I'm going w/ LG LT's and keeping the stock ti's for a little while and getting a haltech stinger. After seeing how much these are worth, maybe I'll go and get some Borla stingers. Thanks guys. I'll post the before and after.
