Few questions...
It seems that maybe 1 out of every 5 times I try to start the vehicle it doesn't want to start up... This makes me get the feeling that the computer isn't recognizing the key, or something is plain wrong with the computer.
I had my BCM replaced less than a year ago, because the drains choked, and when we had a huge storm over here, water got into the BCM, and into the passenger footwell, frying it. My dealership fixed it, can't remember if it was warrantied or not, I think it was though, and it was less than 12 months ago... If something is wrong with it, they cover it right?
Lastly, how do I check for codes? I can't seem to figure it out, its been shown to me before, I just cannot recall how it was done.
Thanks! All help is appreciated!
A couple of things. When you go to start the Vette, you should turn the key to ON (Not START), and let the gauges sweep and see the DIC message (Corvette... By Chevrolet). This allows time for the computers to initialize, and the fuel system to pressurize. Don't underestimate the importance of this!
Second, to pull the DTC codes from the DIC:
The "diagnostic display" mode is entered with the following procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "options"
4) While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-second period.
When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.
The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem.
When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gages" to go forward or "fuel" to go back.
To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset."
FWIW, I created a short Word doc to capture how to pull the codes, printed it and stuffed it in my Owner's Manual case in the glove compartment. Now I have the procedure memorized and can perform it without the instructions, but it did take a few evolutions for me to remember it.
HTH,
Joe
