Default California & Mods

Well... as I am located in the golden state of cali.
I would like to know what mods would pass the smog checks and such?I don't care about the visual but sniffer test is more importand.
Will cams / heads fail the sniffer?

I just smoged mine with a vararam and B&B Bullets and it passed , I am pretty sure that the inspector never had a vette in his smog place so he couldn't tell that i had an aftermarket "illegal" intake.

Anyhow I would like to do a CAM job on my car ... but just curios if i can pass or else id be in big trouble.

I think as long as the cam is made out of organic tofu you will be fine. Be sure to be running the car on bio-diesel and if you have the bucks yank out the LS1 and sneak a Prius drive train in there.

This "Golden" state of ours is getting less golden all the time. Three of my best friends are leaving - to Washington, Texas, New Mexico...

In Texas I think it's a state law that if your car is American Made you get a tax deduction for all modifications that increase horsepower (you must attach dyno sheet to tax return). Machine guns are mandatory and ammo is free.

I'd get political here - but it's the wrong forum....

forget about running a straight exhaust, you'll need mufflers (smog test).

long tube headers with no cats are a no no too

Yes you can change the cam and heads and still pass smog. It will depend on what cam you want to go with. With the intake and mufflers you shouldn't have a problem. Headers are not legal in Calif even though I have them on my car. The best person to talk to about the cam is Andy at A&A Corvettes. I know for sure you could get by with a 224 or 228 cam and still pass smog. AFR 205 heads are the best on the market. Hope this helps you. Gary.

If you add L/T Headers you will fail the visual! AFR Cylinder Heads are legal.

I passed no problem, see sig for mods. Note that the B&B shorty headers are the only truly C.A.R.B. headers right now.

I'm in the process of going through the same. I purchased Heads, Cam and z06 exhaust manifolds with cats. I never tried this, but their are a number of ls1 that pass with a TR224 cam. I plan to go with a Cheater cam. Stock idle or very close, able to lug the car down low, plus ~380 to 400 hp/ ~380 ft lbs of torque (where I can use it). There is a big write up in over at LS1 tech.

What also nice is it's optimized for stock exhaust car like mine.

BTW, I'm located san jose.

Default What works...

224 cam w/good tuning always works!

224/228 is better if it works-which it should (especially w/larger cubes) and good tuning-See Andy @ A&A if you are in Californica.

Basically the cam determines if it smogs.

As above, AFR 205's are great.

May the BOOST be with you!
