Default Question about tinting rear window

I had my rear window tinted today. On the very top where the black dots are on the glass the tint looks like it has air under it. You can see it from the outside. Trim Design told me that is normal. Has anybody else had this problem?

Everyone I have seen looks as you describe.
A solution is to peel the uppermost section off and paint that area black.

yes, that is normal. I had my back window tinted twice from different shops. One used 2 pieces and the other just one piece.

Yep , normal...... shop I used did the dot area with black vinyl. You will still se the small whitish rings as you're dealing with 2 levels of surface.

It is normal, and you probably can work the air bubbles out on your own.

If you just got the tint done today, best thing you can do is let it bake in the sun for the next few days and let all the moisture dry up. Trying to work the tint now won't work.

Once dry, you can use your thumb or finger, and try to press the film to the glass and work the air bubbles out. Ideally, a 2" wide rubber squeege is the tool of choice, but your thumb will work too.
Your goal is to get the tint stuck to the glass around the black dots...Look from the outside, and with your hand on the inside of the glass, simply press the film to the glass where you see bubbles or unstuck areas. Work it from the bottom to the top of the hatch.

With some patience, you can get it to lay down and stick. ...just use nothing sharp and be gentle with the film, it is very thin and soft, easy to crease and distort. Do not rub it, just press it where needed. You may not get it all in one sitting, if you get one area stuck down, but continuing causes it to unstick, repeat the same routine, get to the point where you get it to stick, then let it bake n the sun, then continue on in a day or two.

...a good tint shop will use glue to help with adhesion. A place with a good rep that has done corvettes is the only place to go..........If your not happy with the work they have done, take it back and see what they can do for you......Good luck....

Had mine done no problems. They can't use the regular tint at the top, where the am antenna is, so they use vynal no big deal, just am
radio could use an external antenna now.

I called them and they said it was normal on a vette. I said "so it is normal to look like crap?" They said there was nothing they could do. So I called another tint place and told them how it looks and they told me they could cut that part off and put some kind of vinyl stuff in that spot. He said that is how they do it on the vettes and mustangs.

It's probably just a black vinyl strip that will be across the dot matrix, as you have probably seen across the tops of peoples windshields before.

, great reply! Park it in the hot sun before you do the rub and use a micro fiber towel wrapped arround you finger so you don't burn yourself. Don't wait more than a day or two before doing the rub.

This pic of mine, sorry she's dirty, shows it'll lay down pretty well.

A good tinter will tint the window in one piece and you will not see any white spots or anything tdiffernt around the dots. The quality of a back window will show the true skills of a window tinter. There are many tricks of the trade just forback windows. On my 02 Z my back window is done in 20% and it looks perfect. I would go to a differnt tinter.
