I've driven across country a few times through the south. My experience has been If you speed in TX, slow down through towns. The only time in TX that I got stopped but let off with a warning for being 10 over. AZ and NM I regularly cruise through at 75 to 80. One afternoon I was rolling through AZ at around 85 and a trooper pulled up next to me, looked my vehicle over, and proceeded to take off like I was standing still.
I've also been running 80 or so at night through AZ and was stopped by a trooper. I think he was bored - he asked me if I was interested in a cup of coffee. We went back to the squad car and had a couple of cups and then he sent me on my way. This was back in the days of 55.
