Default new problem with head lights - help

My head lights work fine - the go up and down when switched on and off - BUT now the motor on the left one continues to run for several seconds AFTER I switch them off and the lights retract. Is there a cut off switch on the assembly that is bad?

Thanks,
rr

Hello RR,

Your nylon gears have stripped and are probably missing a couple of teeth. You can get brass replacements which will fix the problem here: http://www.rodneydickman.com/retail.html

It is a very common problem and the replacement gear should last a lifetime instead of only a few years of normal use.

I am local so if you would like more info to see in person if you wanted to tackle this fix yourself, feel free to send me a PM.

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. It was a cracked gear. I went to http://www.rodneydickman.com/retail.html and ordered the brass gears and replaced them last week. Best $80.00 I spent on my car! Even comes with detailed How-To instructions. Much cheaper than buying a new motor. Hope this helps. -Ed

I too have the same problem. Thanks for the link for a fix. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it to fix? Thanks again jdmvette. Jerry

I found it easy to replace overall because step by step instructions are included with the gears. However, I did find it alittle tought to get to some of the nuts to remove the headlight assembly but not impossible. Not a difficult process just put side about 1 hour or so and read the instructions and you should be good.
