I pulled my car in the garage tonight and noticed a smear on the paint, it looked like a clear bug splat or some sap, but after waxing the area, and cleaning it I noticed it is under the clear coat. It almost looks like the paint it lifting or has a defect of some sort. It’s about 1.5" x 1/4" on the center of the hood, not very noticeable until it’s in the florescent lights?? What the heck is going on, my car is a 03, and is stored for at least 5 months every year since I bought it new. It only has 13,000 miles, and is always waxed and kept clean. Would warranty cover this or what should I do?
Did you try cleaning it with a clay bar? It may be a chemical stain that will come out. Depending on the lighting they sometimes look like they are beneath the paint.
Its usually from birdie doo-doo and will need to have the paint polished in order to remove. If it has etched the clearcoat, only polish will remove it.
Strip the area with alcohol first. If it does not go, its in the paint. Time to polish and see if it can be removed. Always start with least aggressive polish and go more aggressive only as necessary. (Compounding is most aggressive)
