Default How much should I offer?

A local dealer has a 04 Z16 with less then 1K miles.

I want to trade my 04 loaded vert with 30K miles. I know he is going to want some cash out of this and not an even trade, so what do you think is fair, thanks!

presume you meant a z06---------start w/ kbb of each car & offer the dealer less. make him come to your number. may take some time & may not work but it just depends on how motivated the dealer is to move a car. fwiw (very personal opinion), i'd prefer a z06 over a vert. best of luck. bub

IMHO, KBB and Edmunds don't reflect reality with Vettes. They are way off is either direction. If it a Chevy dealer they will have an idea of the value of your current market. They may not be asking a fair price but another story all together.

What is their asking price for the Z16?

I highly doubt they would entertain an even trade. I would guess they will come back with a $9k gap. Assuming they will offer $37k fr your vert and asking $46 for the Z16.

Then the haggling begins...

Food for thought: IF your sales tax laws are similar to FL, you may only need to pay the difference in value between pruchase and trade-in in sales tax, not the entire amount. On a $45k car, that is a lot of money. So factor that into the price as well.

The sales tax in my area of FL is 6%. If the car is 45k, the sales tax would be $2,700. If they gave you $38k for your vert you would pay $420.00 in sales tax. So the street equal value would be $42,720.00. I know that none of this is what you asked but to me it really is part of the picture. To me, a Z16 with <1k miles for that money is a great price. Granted some folks paid less than $40k new but the resale market on them now is a bit stronger than the new market 8-12 months ago.

To me, I would pay $.50 to $1.00 additional for lesser miles for an extremely low Z16.

An 04 vert with 30k miles would probably bring $39k max in a private sale. Please don't take that as an insult. There are a lot out there and many with low miles. Example: I recently marketed my loaded 04 vert with every option except mag ride with 700 miles and the private price market was only looking to bring around $41k.

I am not a dealer, nor do I play one on TV. JMHO...

I will throw in a plug for the Z16... it is a stunning ride for sure! The color, polished wheels, and carbon fiber hood are very nice. If you aren't a fan of the stripes they will probably grow on you.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.
