First off I'd like to say I picked up an '00 FRC black/black M6 C5 yesterday and could not be happier.
Anyways, the owner only had one of the two original keyless entry units however the one he gave me doesn't work. I replaced the battery thinking that's all it was, still didn't work.
After that I went through resynchronizing the transmitter - still didn't work. Lastly I tried matching the transmitter to the vehicle and went through all the steps outlined in the owners manual. Still nothing.
Is there anything I'm missing, something else I could try before buying a new unit from the dealer? Thanks.
Sorry, sounds like you got screwed out of a remote. I'm assuming you got the right battery. E-bay has them real cheap, the units usually cost an arm and a leg at the dealership. Maybe you could get one from a vender here on the forum. Good luck.
The FOB the dealer gave you might not be the correct one for your car. My daughter has a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM and her Key-FOB looks identical to the ones I have for my 2004 Z06 yet I can not program hers to work with my car.
Alright, looks like either Ebay or the dealer. Is there a specific unit I should look for on Ebay? Is there something to verify that the Ebay unit will work with the C5 system?
I'm headed back to work - I'll check back with you guys later on tonight. Thanks for the help!
Read the e-bay item description really good. Make sure the seller states that it's a working unit. Maybe you can check with the guys at Fred Beans tomorrow. Good luck.

Try keylessride.com. They sell used fob's for $50 bucks or so and will accept them back if your not happy. If a new fob doesn't work, looks like it's dealer time. I noticed, any time one of the fob's batteries were removed you need to go through the owners manual reprogramming proceedure with all of the cars fob's.
Cool, thanks for the help guys. I checked with keylessride.com - they quoted me $124 for a new fob. Higher than expected but not bad considering the dealer wants $164. Then again the dealer fob probably comes with a free ski mask.
I have purchased them on ebay, for as little as $20. Make sure the part number you buy is the same as the one you have. (My memory seems to think you have the correct number for your year car, as later years are different). Once you program them for your car, it's a snap. I think the Fob you got with your car is dead, and only a serviceable one will fix it. I have three for mine, two of which I bought on ebay. You can program as many as three for your C-5.
