Default Another 4.10 question

I can't seem to do a search on "4.10" so excuse me if I'm beating a dead horse here. I am looking at replacing my 3.42 with at 4.10 rear. Other than DTE, what other quality products/vendors should I look at? What kind of cost could I expect?

If you had the budget for headers or 4.10, which would you do?

many people will say different things but a 4.10 will give u a much increased acceleration but watch ur rpms....they go faster...alot faster...but make sure ur driveline and rear axle are strong enuff to handle the extra torque ud put on

I had 4:10's installed July 11th at DTE in Ft Wayne. They are a GREAT MOD. They give a great seat of the pants feel. Two weeks ago I had some Lg longtubes put on and the sound is awesome. I can tell it has better throttle response and pulls a little harder but I felt a much greater difference with the gears. Together they are a great combo. I also got the hardened output shaft with the gears and total with labor was 1895. Their both great mods.

410's are a great mod, but traction could be an issue, I am not saying don't get the 410's just be aware those poor little GY Runflats are going to go up in smoke even faster then they would with the stock gear

Headers are also good, you could spend anywhere from 1k-2k on a complete Headers set-up with Highflow cats..then to install plan on paying about 300-400 bucks. Some popular quality brands of headers are:

LG's
Kooks
Dynatech
TPIS.

You won't feel as big a difference from headers as you will gears of course, but headers are a good mod to help future mods like cam/heads..supercharger depending on which way you go.

I've talked w/ Chris at ECS a few times, even though I haven't purchased anything directly from them yet (I'm going to be installing a 3.73 rear carrier they built which I purchased from another forum member). Even so, Chris has been extremely helpful and willing to answer my questions, and he has even encouraged me to call back if I need to. Can't go wrong w/ ECS.

FrankTank; very well put.

Too many think others are trying to bash 4.10 gears; when all we're doing is give a complete picture of the benefits and negatives for going to radical rear gear ratios.

While they do break the tires loose more the traction is regained faster with 4.10's since the tires spin slower with higher numerical gear ratios as confirmed by anyone with faster than 1.6 60' times.

How difficult is it to install the DTE differential? Are their any special tools needed? Has anyone posted installation instructions anywhere?

it is an easy install (time consuming, but easy) though I only watched ECS do it. You should also add the harden output shaft if you are going with the 4.10s.

4.10s were my first Mod and I think my best mod until the H/C package.
