Default Zo6 or Not?

Hey guy's I am going to buy a vette in the next month or so. I have never driven a C5 but used to own a C4. People have told me to go with a ZO6, but I really like to looks of a coupe. 1st, is there a large noticeable diff. in interior room? if so will the higher performance be worth the smaller cabin area? i will have about $27,000 to spend.
it will be a 4 or 5 day a week driver. i will do autocross and race guys on the boulevard a few times a month. please help!!!

Go with what you love!.. if you like the looks of the coupe better, get the coupe.. the difference in power is there, but its not worth getting something you don't like as much...

I had a 97 coupe, and now have an 02 Z06... the difference in space is sometimes annoying... the small trunk opening is hard to fit stuff in, whereas the coupe has about the most trunk space of any car, (cuz of no back seat)... so that is sometimes annoying, but I love the Z... if you like the coupe, or the colors that the coupe comes in, GET IT!!... you wont be sorry... If I "had" to have my coupe back.. I wouldn't be sad... besides, 27k will get you a better used coupe than a used Z06...

I say get what you love.. it sounds like you like the look of the coupe better... I love em both... and I've had em both...

heres my 97 Coupe:

and my 02 Z06:

LIke I said, I love em both, "6 one, half dozen the other" both have plenty of power and quite frankly, more than anybody really needs...

Good luck with the decision

Good luck with 27k.

Good points

Better engine
More HP
Tires and rims

Bad points (if you think so)

6 speed only
no glass roof
no roof panel

You decide, I like the coupe better, IMHO

either way.... but you have to think about your long term goals for the car.

in my opinion... i think the Z06 is kinda a waste dont get me wrong, its an awesome car, and i love the body, but i just prefer being able to take the roof off and cruise.

with that budget, i would look into getting a low mileage coupe. enjoy the car stock, then spend some of the left over money on mods! you will easily be beating Z06's with headers/cam!!!

on the other hand.. if you know you will never mod the car (which you will!! ) then go with the Z06. its a race car from the factory. great power, and handling.

With the coupe you get a targa top and part of a requirement of any sportscar for me is that at least part of the top has to come off!

The coupe will have a lot more room in the trunk area - the passenger compartment is the same size. The power of the Z06 is noticable, but if you really like the looks of the coupe, get it. You can always mod it for more performance.

at least from my perspective, (if you can get past the a4 vs m6 thing) every vette owner gets this thought "...gee, i'd kind of like to try a z06 on for size...". bub

I love my z06, but miss the space. I wouldn't trade for a coupe though unless they make zo6 coupe at a reasonable price. I'm not spending $70 k for a car. I have found corvettes very cheap to drive if you find a super deal. My last corvette depreciated $115/month. I paid 34500 for it and sold it 4 years later for $29000. Got into my z06 18 months ago for 14000 off msrp and probably could sell it for very close to what I paid for it.

Try and test drive all flavors, and then buy the one that meets your needs desires. Simple as that. That's why they make different versions. I've owned all three, vert, coupe and non hardtop. They are after all Corvette's, I don't subscribe to the theory one is better than another - only different.

Good luck

Tom

You HAVE to try a Z06.

The standard C5 is nice, but there is something about a Z which can not be explained.

After trying my first one, I switched right away from wanting a standard coupe to a Z. It might be a little more money...it's well worth it!

Good luck either way
