Default Quick Connector for Valantine1

Before I order this little gizmo I would just like to make sure no one is having any issues with it and their Valantine radar units.

http://mysite.verizon.net/ccm.gerber/quickconnect.htm

Anyone do this and then later do a hard wire install for some reason?

And what length should I get? They have 6, 8 and 12 inch lengths.

(My wife says to get the 12" cause thats what she's used to )

Maybe in your wifes dreams, but that's a different story.

I have this setup with the bracket from great lakes trophy for what I think is great way to go for my V1. The short wire should do fine.

Yup, works great. The only issue I had was getting the connector out of the mirror. Needed to use some pliers on the tab and rock it back and forth to dislodge it. You might be able to connect the wire without pulling the connector.

In the process of installing and removing your V1 (for storage), you must depress the little plastic tab. Do this enough times and, trust me, it will eventually break off. Then you need to go to Radio Shack and get a box of replacement connectors and also the crimping tool used for these style connectors and crimp on a new connector. Problem is, you have to cut off the old connector first. See where I'm going on this? If you use this type set-up, get one long enough for you to be able to replace two or three connectors, because eventually the cord is no longer long enough to reach your V1. HTH

I've had mine close to a year with no problems. It's just a phone wire for cryin out loud. How could you have a problem with it? LOL
jeff

PS, now watch, the little plastic tab will break off mine tomorrow.

Think I will get the 8" wire. Makes sense just incase my tabs break...although I don't plan on removing it very often.

(my wife will just have to deal with the short comming)

Whats this bracket from GreatLakes????

Doesn't the V1 use suction cups to the windshield

Excuse my ignorance...this will be my first ever detector!!!!!!

Check out Greatlakestrophy.com for a bracket that attaches directly to the mirror. My V1 is hardly noticable this way.

Howie, Howie, Howie, you walked right into that one.

Good luck with the V1, no guarantee for not getting popped but much better than not having one.

Me too - except that I just ran an 8' RJ11 cord through the header above the windshield, down the passenger side A pillar, behind the dash and into the footwell fuseblock. I chose an "ignition hot" wire to connect to with the supplied connectors and plugged it in. Pretty simple. And - most importantly, the V1 is always on when the ignition is on - off when it's not........

Oh yeah, and the 12" deal...that might be true if you measure the same way you measure a dog's tail if you know what I mean!

I needed the 8" length because I used the visor clip mount from GreatLakesTrophy instead of the under mirror mount. Works great!

**edit**
BTW I ordered both the 6" and 8" lengths and only used the 8" so I have a 6" if anyone wants it.

I think that it is just as easy to hardwire the V1 and leave the mirror connections alone.... You are only looking at a 30 minute install....
