Default Outside Air Temp STUCK!

My digital outside Air Temp sensor says 67 degrees - which in Texas, it obviously is not. Add about 30 degreees.

Problem is, it somhow is inteferring with the A/C as it won't blow high fan when set to AUTO, and doesn't seem to get cool, even with temp set down to 60. Air temp coming out vents in the low 60's,

WHAT GIVES? NO problems up until today....massively cold air USED to come out!

Defective Sensor? Where is it? Can the sytem be "rebooted" What would cause it to show an errant reading?

The OAT says 67 no matter which buttons you push???

~~ Help ~~

Sounds like the external air sensor is bad. Its located under the front bumper on the passenger side as I recal. Part is only a few $. Even if you need to replace the pigtail too.

Default OAT sensor

I totally agree. If the sensor is reading incorrectly,(low), it fakes the control into thinking the outside air is already cold, thereby causing it to dial-down it's output of cold air into the cabin.

Anyone know a part number for this? I could order from GM Parts Direct, if it is not an expensive part.

What would make it go bad all of a sudden? Oddly, since original post temp came up to 74, but still WAY off actual outside temp (in the upper 90's)

Default OAT sensor

O.K. The sensor doesn't show a change instantly,-it takes it awhile to stabilize due to engine heat, etc. When I trouble-shot mine it read "open" with a VOM, and the plug had a corroded-in-two pin. I replaced both the sensor and the plug pigtail. The sensor part no. is: 16267411, and the plug part no. is: 12102747. (It is the same plug that is used on the coolant "low" sensor in the coolant tank, FYI). gmpartsdirect or Fitchner Chev. will fix you up, not too expensive, the plug is more that the sensor. If you unplug the sensor, the input to the HVAC control will remain at about 73 degrees constant.

I stopped at my local gm dealer who had them in stock for $7.50. They fit many other gm cars. I bet a dealer near you has one.

Seems to be a routine part, as my calls around Dallas all yielded "YES IN STOCK"

Have not put in on yet, will will examine pins and connectors, cover with dielectric grease and hopefully put this minor inconvenience behind be.

In fact, I am going to do that right now ~~~~~~~~~~~
