Default Fuel Fuller Door Won't Open

The fuel fuller door on my 02 vette is not working. i've been using the manual fuel door release in the hatch area. is this something i can repair myself or do i need to take back to the dealer , heaven forbid, the dealer to get repaired????

many thanks

Look around the inside and in your owners manual.
There is a cable release you can use to get it open.

My 04 has an electric switch in the under the console. If you follow the instructions the Ken King has for removing the console (waterfall (if appropriate), and then four bolts for the rear console www.vetteessentials.com.

I would suspect that 1)the cable came loose from the switch 2)the switch is defective, or 3)it is possible that it is in the filler door mechanism.

I would disconnect the cable from the fuel switch and see if you can trip the filler door mechanism with a small wire by completing the circuit between the contacts in the cable. If this works, then you should just be able to replace the switch. I am not sure if Autozone carries them, or you have to go to GM. But, you have it all exposed, so it should be easy.

If it is in the mechanism at the filler door, I don't know where to start.

Best of luck.

I would check the fuses - #32 under the hood and see if it's bad. I believe it is a 15amp minifuse.

If you have access to the service manual - look at page 8-1405 in volume 1.

Start there then go to switch.

You're lucky then, if you get it to open it's gonna cost you $60 to fill up. Leave it closed
If you must though the above links should get you going. You should here a soleniod click when you push the button, if you do then the door/cable is stuck; if you do'nt then the wire harness proably seperated from the button under the console. Have you changed shifters latley or pulled the console up for any reason?

Agree with the others. Check the fuse, then open the center console and see if the connection to the switch has come off. I had mine slip off once, but I open my console often for various reasons, so I probably didn't put it on correctly.

Good luck sorting it out.
