Well I got my Hurst ****er today in the mail, Thanks LAPD, and just got done installing it. The install instructions were clear and straight forward and the intall went great. Just came back from a quick ride and I am very impressed. The shift throws are much shorter, effort is highter but the shift is very positive. Shifter clicks securely in place for every gear wether taking it easy or gettin on it. Left the factory spring setting in for now with no adjustments to tension and will go from here.
Cool......Glad to hear it went well and you like it!! I have one sitting in my garage from LAPD for my new toy, '02 coupe, that is on the way from Pennsylvannia. I guess I kinda put the cart before the horse on this one !!!!!!
I especially love the 2nd to 3rd shift now. Just push the shifter up and it goes in so easy. The stoch shifter always gave me problems with the 3rd gear shift.
THe longest part of the job for me was getting the OEM shift **** off. I tried and tried and tried but couldn't get the damn thing off. I finally resorted to using a hack saw and cutting the stock shifter in half. WIth that taken care of, installing the Hurst took me about an hour. I took my time and made sure everything was perfect. It's a great shifter. BTW, I would rate my installing skills as novice - at best.

My Devil Pin(I think thats the name)came out easily with 2 screw drivers and a bit of luck.I don't have a Hurst Shifter however.I got the B&M ripper.I had the dealer do it since ,previously I have had Tranny issues and I figure If I need more Tranny work in the future, they won;t hassle me over the new shifter.Apparantly there are fewer adjustments with the B&M shifter compared to the Hurst. The B&M functions much better than the OEM.I wish it had some more adjustments.
Groucho
How long it take ya? And skill level??
thx
Groucho,
Took me about an hour and fifteen minutes. Really just took my time and was very careful. Would go much quicker second time around and the install direction are good. As for skill level, I would say that this is an upgrade that anyone can do with little trouble.
motorpsycho98vette
Is the height of the shifter a little bit shorter or the same height. I can't stand the height of the stock shifter.
motorpsycho98vette,
Shifter is shorter, about an inch or so. What I like about the new height is that the shift **** doesn't get in the way of the HVAC controls when in 3rd and 5th as much. I can work the controls by going over it as opposed to around it like stock. Also the throws are so much shorter, a very nice mod IMHO.
vey easy to swap out the stock shifter. I think the first time it took me about 1 hour of taking my time. I have done it 3 times since and it takes about 30 mins now.
Basically it is:
remove the Center console
Remove the plastic piece that surrounds the radio, shifter, etc...

It's called a Demon Key, but I like Devil Pin better!
I love my Hurst shifter also...shorter shifter, shorter throws & precise feel....what's not to like? I used the default springs the kit came with, it was a little too stiff at first but it loosens up over time. Now it's just about perfect!
