Default Fender alignment/broken lower tab...

On my 98 the front passenger side fender isn't aligned right. The top of the fender is very close to the door and the bottom has a fairly large gap from the rocker panel. Also, looking under the car I found that the fiberglass tabs are broken on both the fender and the rocker panel where they screw into each other. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, what was the fix?

Thanks,
Chris

You can easily adjust the fenders by loosening the screws. As for under the fender and rocker panel, maybe you can put a washer or a screw with a wider head in the original hole.

That is from jacking the car without the pucks. I know Ecklers has a repair kit.

Yeah, I figured it was either that or the car just bottomed out on something. I bought the car used, so I'm in the process of putting everything right. I'll check out Ecklers for that kit.

Thanks,
Chris

Right after buying mine I crunched that exact part going in a driveway. I used some aerospace adhesive and glued it back in place tight. Not exactly correct, but if it holds airplanes together it will work. Have since added the rocker rails, but not sure that would have helped here.

1997-1998: Service Bulletin: Front Fender to Door Fit/Appearance (Install Retainer)
Subject: FRONT FENDER TO DOOR FIT/APPEARANCE (INSTALL RETAINER)
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Technical Service Bulletin
Number: 83-15-13 - (07/17/1998)
Models: 1997-1998 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE REAR UPPER CORNER OF THE DRIVER'S AND/OR PASSENGER'S FRONT FENDER DOES NOT FIT WELL WITH THE FRONT UPPER EDGE OF THE DOOR (SEE FIGURE 1). THEY MAY ALSO COMMENT THAT THE CONDITION APPEARS MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO WARMER AMBIENT TEMPERATURES.

Cause:

THIS CONDITION MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES WHEN THE OUTIDE TEMPERATURE IS HIGH AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS. DURING THESE CONDITIONS, THE FRONT FENDER MATERIAL, WHICH IS ABSORBING HEAT ENERGY, MAY BEGIN TO "DROOP" SLIGHTLY AT THE UPPER REAR CORNER. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE UPPER REAR EDGE OF THE FENDER MAY NOT APPEAR FLUSH TO THE FRONT UPPER DOOR EDGE. AS THE FENDER COOLS, IT RETURNS TO ITS ORIGINAL FIT OR FLUSHNESS.

Correction:

TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, INSTALL ONE RETAINER (P/N 10412533) TO THE UPPER FRONT EDGE OF BOTH DOORS AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1.

Parts Information:

P/N DESCRIPTION QTY. PER VEHICLE PKG. QTY. REQUIRED
